Dhal

Taken from the old reliable Olive magazine, I made this as an accompaniment to a spinach and chickpea curry. I wanted to make something different for a vegetarian dinner party. Being a novice at Indian cooking I followed the recipe exactly. It was delicious and devoured by everyone who ate it!

Ingredients:

250g red split lentils
1 tsp turmeric
1 onion , grated
2 garlic cloves , finely chopped
1 red chilli, finely chopped
1 tsp garam masala

Method:
Put the lentils and turmeric in a pan and add water to cover by 2cm. Season and simmer for about 20 minutes until tender, adding more water if needed.

Heat some oil in a pan then cook the onion, garlic and chilli for a few minutes. Add the garam masala, cook for a minute.

Stir the onion mix into the cooked lentils.
